Greco-Roman wrestling

Greco-Roman wrestling (also known as French wrestling), originated in France in the 19th century. It was included in the modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. Today, Greco-Roman wrestling is the most famous style of wrestling. The moves can only be done above the waist. Only the upper body is involved. Attacks on the legs are forbidden.
Greco-Roman wrestling will be present at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Freestyle wrestling

Freestyle wrestling made its first appearance at the modern Olympic Games in St. Louis in 1904. Freestyle wrestling was considered professional entertainment in the United States and Great Britain, at funfairs and festivals. Unlike Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling involves the whole body. Attacks on the legs are therefore allowed. Like Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling is one of the many sports included in the Olympic Games.

Female wrestling

Initially a male domain, wrestling is no longer just for the guys. Female wrestling emerged in France and Scandinavian countries in the 1980s.
It's simply the female version of freestyle wrestling. It was introduced at the Athens Games in 2004. For safety reasons, some moves are not allowed.

Traditional wrestling

There are as many types of traditional wresting as there are nations or ethnic groups. Each one of them can claim its own form of traditional wrestling. Examples include Indian wrestling, Nigerian wrestling, or even Breton wrestling!
